Overview
This tutorial will take you through the steps I take when coloring a piece digitally. You will need Photoshop to use this tutorial. Preferably, version 5.5 or higher.

Getting Started

Before getting started, I set up my work area. I generally like music while coloring because it can get tedious and boring. Yeah that's right. This didn't take just 2 minutes to make. It'll take you a lot of time to finish a picture. So, first make sure you have a good chunk of time to work on this or work on chunks of it in smaller increments. While it will probably take you 3 minutes to read through this tutorial, it took me almost 2 hours to lay down the base colors alone. I'm not even gonna think about how long it takes to shade them. (I will show 3 methods of shading that I use). Okay, so now keep that in mind. It will take a long time. Below I have an example of how I like to set up my work area and highlighted the tools you will use most commonly during the course of the tutorial.

Also note that this is a digitally inked piece imported from Adobe Illustrator.
